The woman who abandoned her child in the stair of an apartment building in Buiucani district of Chisinau on January 23 was identified. This is 25 and is from Dondușeni district. She told the police that she cannot explain why she abandoned her child as she was in a fit of rage. She is investigated outside remand as she maintains two more minor children.
Asked by IPN to comment, Lucia Caciuc, acting head of the Chisinau Division for the Protection of Children’s Rights, said that they haven’t yet received an official notification from the police. As the woman is from outside Chisinau, this case will be taken over by the tutelage authority at her place of residence. “As the child is not from Chisinau, his fate will be decided at the place,” stated Lucia Caciuc.
The police started a criminal case over leaving in danger. The woman faces a fine of over 27,000 lei, 180 to 240 hours of community service and up to two years in jail.
The one-month-old child was found on January 23. There was a note with the boy’s birthdate in the baby carriage in which this was abandoned.
