A 45-year-old woman was hit fatally in a crosswalk in Chisinau. The driver, who was presumably under the influence of alcohol, was shortly arrested for 72 hours, IPN reports.
The incident happened on Sarmisegetusa St in Chisinau on February 5. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the victim was crossing the street legally, by the crosswalk. The woman died as a result of the impact as she suffered injuries incompatible with life.
The vehicle was driven by a man aged 51 from Balti municipality. It was preliminarily determined that this was inebriated.
The Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office took legal action over violation of traffic rules while under the influence. He faces up to eight years in jail and ban on driving for a period of up to five years.
