71 year old woman from Manzatesti, Ungheni district, was killed in a fire caused by the explosion of a gas cylinder. The fire started in a summer kitchen. The woman couldn’t be saved, her body being totally carbonised. Her neighbours say the fire was spotted only in the morning, but didn’t spread onto the other houses. Experts say the explosion was caused by leakage at the hose of the cylinder. 1733 fires occurred this year, in which 113 persons died, including 5 children. 114 buildings and 82 vehicles were completely destroyed. During last week alone, the Fire Department recorded 62 fires. The main causes were people’s ignorance, careless smoking, electric short-circuits, gas leakage, children playing with fire, and careless use of cooking devices etc. The Fire Department urges the public not to set on fire the dry grass or waste since most of the time the fire spreads into the woods, where extinguishing services can’t reach.
