A 79-year-old woman perished in a house fire in Sărătenii Vechi village of Telenești district. Her husband aged 82 suffered serious burns and was hospitalized.
The General Inspectorate for Emergencies said the man was taken out of the house by neighbors before the firemen arrived. He was admitted to the Telenești District Hospital in a very serious state. The woman was found dead. Things inside the house were destroyed, while the ceiling collapsed.
Contacted by IPN for details, Irina Burdujan, press officer of the Telenești Police Inspectorate, said the two persons were confined to bed. The cause of fire hasn’t been yet found out.
Veronica Cupcea, mayor of Sărătenii Vechi, has told IPN that the elderly couple shared the courtyard with their daughter. No one was at home when the fire started. Their daughter was at work, while their grandchildren were at school and at kindergarten. The local authorities asked for permission to install a smoke detector in the elderly people’s home, but the family refused.
