A woman from Hâncești district was sentenced to seven years in jail for human trafficking. The 36-year-old woman was taken in custody from the courtroom, IPN reports.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said the woman, promising a well-paid job in Turkey, in the summer of 2016 recruited a young woman in a difficult financial situation, bought a plane ticket to her and organized her transportation to the destination, where the girl was forced to prostitute herself. During about three months, she provided sex services in an apartment in Istanbul and gave half of the earned incomes to persons of Turkish origin.

When she returned home, the victim went to the police, which took legal action. The sentence can be disputed at a higher court.

Statistics of the Prosecutor’s Office show 312 cases of trafficking in persons and related crimes were recorded last year, with 144 of them being sent to court. There were passed 130 sentences against 190 culprits.
