Woman from Transnistria protests more than one month in front of Parliament

A woman aged 48 from Transnistria protests already for a month in front of the Parliament of Moldova. She says she will not leave until the central authorities do not solve the problem of her son, who was convicted based on trumped-up charges. Varvara Zingan lives in Taslacm Grigoriopol raion, controlled by the separatist authorities of Transnistria. The woman protested several times during the last six years in front of the Parliament, wrote a series of petitions, but the problem remains unsolved. She says she will appeal the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), considering that the money she will possibly win will not help her to wipe off the shame caused to her family by the authorities. More, the woman says she is afraid that the authorities will persecute her boy if she appeals the ECHR. She says that her boy aged 28 was involved in a fight in a bar and a man who came with a gun to settle the conflict died, after another person has deadly fractured man’s backbone while attempting to snatch the gun from his hands. The guilty person had a relative who was a prosecutor and in order to hush up the case, her son was held responsible. The woman says that her boy was sentenced to thirteen years of prison in 2001. He was jailed several times, including for a period of one year, but at the moment the authorities deny the fact that he was sentenced and convicted. The woman is afraid that her boy could be convicted again because of the summonses which are sent to her son lately. Varvara Zingan asks the authorities to annul the penal proceedings against her son, and clear his criminal record. According to her, the case is orchestrated by the law-enforcement bodies subordinated to the authorities from Chisinau. She says that several representatives of the authorities came to her to find information about the case during the protest, including high officials but her problems remains unsolved. Also, the woman says that she will celebrate the Independence of Moldova in front of the Parliament, protesting.
