A 49-year-old woman died in a fire in her apartment in Șoldănești town. Her partially carbonized body was found by firefighters who were called out to extinguish the fire, IPN reports.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said the fire started in a first-floor apartment of a five-story building. The 112 Service was called by neighbors who noticed dense smoke coming out of the apartment. Careless smoking is the preliminary cause of the fire.
Firefighters warn that a smoldering cigarette can cause fires that start from surfaces and extend all over the house, claiming lives.
The 390 fires that happened in Moldova so far this year resulted in 44 deaths.
