With one third of voting reports processed, Ion Ceban is shown to have 53% of the ballot

After 110 of the 305 voting reports were processed, the National Alternative Movement’s candidate for mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban is shown to hold the lead with almost 53% of the vote. He is followed by the PAS candidate Lilian Carp with almost 27% of the poll, IPN reports.

According to the preliminary results presented by the Central Election Commission, the candidate of the PSRM Adrian Albu gained 4.5% of the vote, the PPPDA’s candidate Victor Chironda – 3.7%, the Revival Party’s candidate Vasile Bolea – 2.6%. The other contenders polled less than 2% of the ballot.

If none of the candidates gains more than half of the valid votes cast, a runoff vote involving the two candidates with the highest number of votes in the first round voting will be held in two weeks. The candidate who will win most of the votes in the runoffs will be declared the winner.

After processing 80 of the voting reports, the votes for the Chisinau Municipal Council were divided as follows: MAN – 35%, PAS – 30.6%, PSRM – 10.8%, PCRM – 4.6%, the Revival Party – 3%, PPDA – 2.4%. The other parties obtained less than 2% of the poll.

The council elections consist of one round. The seats of councilor to parties and electoral block are distributed by successively dividing the number of valid votes cast for each party and bloc by 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. up to the digit that corresponds to the number of seats set for the given electoral constituency.
