The National Tennis School in Chisinau kicked off the Moldovan Winter Cup. The competition, which bears the name of Gheorghe Nedbaliuc, reunited over 100 tennis players in five age categories, men and women, Info-Prim Neo reports. The major absentees of the tournament are Moldova’s finest players- Radu Albot and Maxim Dubarenco. Albot hopes to qualify for the first big competition of the year in world tennis – Australian Open. “The Moldovan Winter Cup is the final stage of training and forming the national teams, including the U12 and U14 squads, for the European Winter Championships”, chairwoman of the Moldovan Tennis Federation Marina Tauber told Info-Prim Neo. The winners of the Winter Cup in the 16 year old category will have the right to take part in the qualifiers for the International Tournament Dmitrie Sturdza Trophy 2012, which will take place in Moldova. The Winter Cup will end on January 11.
