In order to avoid accidents, the drivers must permanently adjust the speed to the conditions on the roads, which are now covered with glazed frost and beaten snow, said the senior inspector of the Traffic Police Division, Major Ion Roscovanu.
Roscovanu told Info-Prim Neo that the very high number of collisions last weekend was due to the weather conditions and non-adjustment of the speed to the difficult roads. He stressed that the motorists must observe certain rules during winter, including traveling at lower speed, keeping a greater distance between the vehicles, using windscreen wipers more frequently, and not using the brake pedal, but the motor brake.
Ion Roscovanu advises the drivers to check the braking and direction system before setting off, to use winter tires and to carry a shovel and a towing rope in the trunk.
The pedestrians must be very attentive even when they cross the roads according to the rules as the drivers encounter difficulties in braking on the icy roads, Ion Roscovanu added.
