The inauguration of the winter holidays in Chisinau will traditionally take place on December 1. The main Christmas tree of the capital city was set up in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral “God’s Birth”, near the Holy Gates, not in the Great National Assembly Square as usual, IPN reports, quoting the authorities.
It is the 20-meter-high artificial fir tree that was used the previous years too. This will be decorated with 2,800 colorful ball ornaments and 1,000 meters of festoon.
A total of 3km of festoon with LED lamps will be set up in the perimeter of the Great National Assembly Square and along the pedestrian alley on Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Blvd, A. Pushkin St and Mitropolit G. Bănulescu-Bodoni St. Decorative lighting with elements in the form of snowflakes will be placed on the utility poles on the main artery of Chisinau, from D. Cantemir Market up to Ciuflea St.
Decorative lighting will also be placed on the main streets of the city’s districts, including on Viaduct, Dacia Blvd, Ion Creangă St, Alba Iulia St and Alecu Russo St.
The conception of this year’s holidays is different, given the COVID-19 pandemic. There will be mounted no Christmas bazaars and fairs in central Chisinau.
