With a delay of several days, the Christmas tree in the central square of Chisinau was inaugurated in the evening of December 4. Together with the lights on the tree, there was turned on the holiday lighting on the streets of the city. Those who came to the inauguration could watch a performance given by national stars, IPN reports.

Attending the event, acting mayor Silvia Radu, who came accompanied by her two deputies, said the winter holidays are the most beautiful ones and are the most awaited by all the people on earth. “We inaugurate this fir tree to meet the spirits of Christmas with the open heart and with peace in our souls. Let’s leave what was bad behind and let’s head with high spirits and a reconciled heart for a new year. I think Chisinau deserves what’s best and want’s the nicest. I intend to struggle for this as long as I will have the honor to lead the municipality of Chisinau,” she stated.

Not far from the crowd that came to the inauguration, a number of representatives of the Liberal Party carried placards with the words “Despite the oligarchic tree, Chisinau remains in the darkness” on them.

Deputy chairman of the Liberal Party Valeriu Munteanu said the “oligarchic tree” was placed in the Great National Assembly Square in the same way as Silvia Radu was appointed mayor – illegally. “We are the first and I hope the last capital city in the world that has an oligarchic tree. We demonstrate here for the citizens of Chisinau municipality and of the Republic of Moldova to know this thing,” he stated.

“What Silvia Radu does at the City Hall and elsewhere is anarchy. I want to say that she is not a good manager by far, as she boasted in interviewees paid with thousands of euros. We saw how she manages the City Hall and saw where her message takes us to,” said Liberal MP Alina Zotea.

The fir tree bought in Ukraine for 15,000 lei, which the municipality of Chisinau intended to inaugurate on December 1, got to the capital city with delay and with many broken branches. This was installed in the Great National Assembly Square in the morning of December 2. Employees of the Green Areas Association tried to reanimate it, but acting mayor Silvia Radu ordered to remove the fir tree. A new tree that is about 17 meters in height was installed in its place the same day. This was cut down from the yard of a kindergarten situated in Botancia district of Chisinau. Silvia Radu said she bought the tree with her own money and paid 10,000 lei for it. It was agreed that the money will be donated for charity.
