Wine industry is very important for Moldova’s economy, while the Moldovan wines are the country’s visiting card. This sector offers tens of thousands of jobs and provides the country’s main product for export, said officials and diplomats attending the opening of the National Wine Day that is celebrated in the central square of Chisinau on October 1 and 2, IPN reports.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the wine is the drink of Gods and a product of which the Moldovan can be proud. “Our wines are appreciated in the country and abroad. I’m proud that our wines receive the highest awards at international festivals. The wines presented here are known by many foreign officials, who appreciate them. I assure you of the Government’s openness and support,” he stated, addressing the winemakers.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Eduard Grama said the National Wine Day this year is an occasion for rendering homage to the people who work daily in the wine industry. “The wine sector is one of the most important and competitive ones in Moldova, which provides work to tens of thousands of people. An increasing number of wineries are rebuilt. Money is invested in the sector’s modernization and this contributes to the county’s development,” he stated.

Gheorghe Arpentin, director of the National Office of Vine and Wine, noted that Chisinau during two days will be the capital of wine, tourism and gastronomy. “It is a major event to promote the country, which became a symbol of Moldova. An event of such a scale can be organized only by concerted effort. Investment in this sector continues so as to make new wines of a high quality,” he said.

U.S. Ambassador to Moldova James Pettit said he personally discovered the Moldovan wines several years ago and remained impressed by their quality and personality. “The wines brought international recognition, international awards to the producers. Moldova must be proud of its wines, of the hardworking people who make them and of their hospitability,” stated the diplomat.

This year it is celebrated the 15th edition of the National Wine Day.
