The budget of the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure is the core of the struggle between the Democratic Party and the Liberal Party for the management of this institution. Political analyst Igor Botan has told IPN that there is one more cause – this ministry is used as a pretext for removing the Liberals from the government coalition.
“The cause of the struggle is probably the budget and money managed by this ministry and I think the essence of the problem resides in this. We know that the given ministry is involved in the renovation of infrastructure. The contracts signed in this respect are probably very profitable,” said the analyst, adding that the PDM cannot control all the ministries with large budgets and leave only the ministries that give many headaches to the government partners.
“There is one more issue. The PDM will feel more comfortable in power together with the PCRM. I think the party hopes to attract the remaining supporters of the PCRM, which is in decline. This is probably also a matter that can be used to cause tension and push the PL outside the coalition. This is a pretext,” stated Igor Botan.
Asked which of the parties would manage the Ministry of Transport better, the analyst answered that he cannot say as when this ministry was administered by the PL, different legislative amendments had to be made, while the PDM came when a part of this work was already done.
The Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu Wednesday said the European partners recommended that the PL should manage the ministries it controlled before the Alliance for European Integration fell apart in 2013. In a press briefing on Thursday, the chairman of the PDM Marian Lupu said the party he heads will not renounce this institution, but avoided saying the reasons, suggesting asking the Liberals why they demand controlling this ministry.
