The White Week that precedes Lent stated on Monday. During this week, the faithful can eat dairy produce and fish, but cannot eat meat products, IPN reports.

The religious significance of this week is that it is not as strict as Lent. “There are moments when we have more daily concerns. For example, on Wednesday and on Friday, the Divine Liturgy is not held at monasteries. The spiritual significance refers to the moment of family joy, when we stay together at the table as a period of repentance follows. From the perspective of the theological definition, each day of the week has its own significance. Monday is the day devoted to the Holy Angels. Tuesday is the day devoted to the Holy Prophets, etc.” adviser to the Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia Ioan Cosoi, priest of the Saint Trinity Church of the Chisinau Lyceum “Prometeu”, has told IPN.

Lent starts on February 27. It is a period of preparation for Easter or the Resurrection of Crist. During Lent, each week has a special theme. The first week is the Week of Repentance, while the last week is the Passion Week.

Lent is the longest fasting season of the year when dairy and meat are not allowed. On the Annunciation (April 7) and on Palm Sunday (one week Before Easter), those who fast are allowed to eat fish.
