The white-black TV set, the old-model fridge, the telephone and the bicycle will no longer be taken into account when determining the social benefit and cold-month allowance for socially deprived families. This is one of the legislative amendments that will come into force on April 1, IPN reports.
In a news conference on March 21, acting Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga said the welfare indicators when setting the social benefit arouse discontent among the people. The domestic appliances and other goods made in the Soviet period were removed from the list.
The authorities reviewed the officially set score for assessing the family’s property. “Until now, the maximum allowed score was 0.3 points, but from April 1 it will be 0.8 points for social benefit and 0.9 for
cold-month allowances,” said the minister.
Under the new changes, the family will not have the right to apply for social benefit if a member of the family is registered at the Local Employment Agency and to refuse a job or to take part in public works offered by agencies.
The people who want to receive social benefit or cold-month allowances must file an application to the social worker at the mayor’s office and documents showing the incomes and composition of the family. As many as 76,000 families benefited from social support in 2012. The social benefit is 790 lei on average per person.
