The drivers with reduced driving experience, of up to five years, and those who are more experienced, aged over 40, who have particular habits and adjust themselves with difficulty to the modified road traffic rules are most often to blame for traffic accidents.

Marin Maxian, head of the National Patrolling Inspectorate, has told IPN that practically all the road accidents are due to the human factor. The drivers exceed the speed limit, do not adjust the speed to the weather conditions and do not give way to pedestrians or vehicles. They also disregard the stoplights and travel on forbidden lanes. Side collisions are most frequent nowadays.

Of the 308 road accidents that occurred during the first two months of this year, over half happened in the municipality of Chisinau. The most of accidents happened on Tuesday, but the most serious ones took place on Saturday and Sunday, with eight persons being killed in these. The largest number of accidents occurred between 4pm and 8pm and also between midnight and 6am.

The road accidents that happened over the first two months of this year claimed 34 lives, injuring another 361.
