The wheel of time cannot be turned back so that we must go on together with Europe, said Moldovans who took part in the information campaign “EUROPE FOR YOU”. The organizers of the campaign announced that until now they managed to speak to about 20,000 people from 60 settlements of over 30 districts and three municipalities of Moldova, IPN reports.

The people often ask why their salaries aren’t raised at a time when the taxes grow. They also inquired about Moldova’s foreign debts. The participants in the information sessions said that Moldova lived with the Russians and saw what they offered and now want to see what Europe can offer.

Some of the people said they are glad that they can now travel visa free to the EU and can see their relatives and friends. Others said that they cannot benefit from the visa-free regime with the EU because they do not have money to travel. The participants also said that Europe will help the Moldovans build a powerful country. “Only together with Europe will we manage to change the infected mentality of the Moldovans,” they stated.

The people consider that Europe has no negative intentions towards Moldova. “Only together with Europe will we find out what real state independence is. Through the agency of Europe, we will receive grants that will help us to develop. Europe already made many changes in our country; repaired roads and schools. We are sure that many other changes will follow,” said the people.

The organizers said they had many discussions with different people and saw that many of them are completely uninformed. A lot of people are either aggressive or indifferent to what is done in the country. However, speaking about the future, the people said they want workplaces to be created, enterprises to be opened and the factories to be restored. Moldova has fertile land and hardworking people who can develop the country. The people want prosperity and independence. “We do not want to depend on somebody. We can cooperate and work with everyone, but we must be masters in our country. We want to live in peace and harmony,” said participants in the information sessions.

Those who discussed with the people consider that their aspirations to join the European Union and the Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan Customs Union are practically equal - 40% to 40%. Another 20% of people do not know exactly what they want for the country.

The national information campaign “EUROPE FOR YOU” is carried out within the FHI 360 Project “Moldova Partnerships for Sustainable Civil Society” that is supported financially by USAID. It is an apolitical campaign aimed at raising awareness of Moldova’s European course. The campaign will continue until September 2015.
