What Moldovans think about holding of referendum simultaneously with presidential election

An IMAS poll shows that about 52% of the respondents do not want the referendum on European integration to take place concurrently with the presidential election. Another 44% agree that the referendum should be held simultaneously with the presidential election, while 4% do not know or do not answer. The February 2024 sociopolitical barometer was presented by the sociological research company on Thursday, IPN reports.

According to the poll, if a snap presidential election was held next Sunday, 33.3% of those polled would vote for Maia Sandu, while 23.8% for Igor Dodon. The two politicians are followed by Ion Ceban and Ion Chicu with 6.7% each, Renato Usatii with 4.8%, Irina Vlah with 4.7%, Vladimir Voronin with 2.5%, etc. Some 8.4% of the respondents did not know or did not answer, 3.3% said they would not vote for anyone, etc. Of those who decided who to vote for, 37.7% would vote for Maia Sandu, while 26.9% for Igor Dodon. 

If a referendum were held next Sunday, 56% of those surveyed would vote for Moldova’s accession to the European Union, while 28% would vote against. The others would not participate, do not know, have not decided or have not responded.

Some 42% would vote to join the Customs Union, while 37% would vote against. Also, 38% would vote for the union with Romania, while 50% would vote against.

The sociological research was commissioned by Independent News (Romania). It was carried out during February 9-27 and covered a sample of 1,091 respondents. The maximum sampling error is ±3%.
