The goal of vaccination is to create artificial immunity identical with the natural one, but without the person suffering the disease, discomfort or possible serious complications. The vaccines are made from bacteria, weakened or inactive viruses so that they could no longer cause the disease. Information about immunization and how a vaccine works is provided in a video that was launched as part of the campaign “Vaccinate the children, protect your future!”, IPN reports.

Specialists explain that if the same type of virus or bacterium enter the body the second time, even after many years, the formed antibodies will protect the body and will not allow the disease to develop.

Before the appearance of the vaccine, there is only one path to become protected from some of the infectious diseases. Natural immunity is a very efficient mechanism for protecting the body. In order to obtain this natural protection, one should endure all the consequences and possible risks of complications.

The body needs on average a week to learn how to fight an unknown microbe. Before antibodies are produced in a sufficient number, the microbes multiply and attack the body, causing the disease. In some of the cases, the immune system does not manage to respond sufficiently swiftly to the attack of external agents and the disease advances.

The campaign “Vaccinate the children, protect the future!” was initiated by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection together with the National Public Health Agency, with support from the World Health Organization and UNICEF.
