Representatives of the Ministry of Health describe the COVID-19 vaccination rate of 6.7% of the population eligible to be immunized as “very good”. The situation in Moldova is at least better than in Georgia and Ukraine. Now that the Republic of Moldova has vaccine in sufficient quantities, the health authorities expect the vaccination rate will rise to 30% the next few months, IPN reports.
According to Daniela Demișcan, head of the health policy division of the Ministry of Health, the immunization rate of 6.7% places the Republic of Moldova at the top of the list of EaP countries by vaccination. The authorities anticipate the third vaccination stage will go faster as the vaccine is available in larger amounts and those who want to get a vaccine can make an appointment online through www.vaccinare.gov.md.
“Compared with Georgia and Ukraine, the situation in our county is very good. We have 6.7% of the eligible population immunized. To increase the vaccination rate, we suggest creating mobile teams for travelling to different institutions so that we do not lose the beneficiary who wants to get a vaccine, but a lot is yet to be done. We also ordered to create mobile teams for travelling to persons with disabilities and those who are confined to bed,” Daniela Demișcan stated in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1.
The head of the Orhei Public Health Center Ion Bolboceanu said the vaccination process expanded together with the launch of the third vaccination stage. In parallel with the general population, the doctors and teachers who refused to get immunized at the first two stages are vaccinated now.
“75% of the medical personnel in Orhei district were immunized. Some 35% of the education system employees were also vaccinated. The vaccination of teaching staff continues at the third stage. Tens of persons from among the general population asked earlier to be vaccinated. They were put on the family doctor’s list and are now phoned and invited to get a vaccine. About 200-300 persons are vaccinated on average a day,” stated Ion Bolboceanu.
The representatives of the Ministry of Health noted they want the immunization rate to reach 70%. Daniela Demișcan said that to achieve such a rate that is needed to ensure collective immunization, the population should be daily informed about the advantages of vaccination.
“Representatives of the Red Cross are ready to help us. A number of Red Cross volunteers are being trained and will soon go from home to home to tell the population about the benefit of the vaccine. The volunteers will help inform the citizens,” stated Daniela Demișcan.
As many as 50,310 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine that are supplied free of charge through the COVAX Facility were delivered to Moldova on May 20. Another 50,310 doses will be shipped today. More vaccine doses will be delivered through COVAX on May 24, namely 45,600 Astra Zeneca vaccine doses.
