Weekend rainstorms hit central, northern Moldova

Heavy rainfall and windstorms, locally accompanied by hail, have affected on Saturday afternoon buildings and fields in central and northern Moldova, the Emergency Situations Department announced. The territorial committees for emergency situations have begun to estimate the damages caused. Preliminary data show that in Floresti district there were affected some 15 localities, including the town of Floresti and the following villages: Varvarauca, Gura Camencii, Gura Cainarului, Cunicea, Bahrinesti, Cuhurestii de Sus, Frumusica etc., where the storms damaged roofs, windows and crops. In Drochia district, there were affected a total of 1,295 hectares of sown fields and orchards in the villages of Ochiul Alb, Nicoreni and Hasnaseni. In Falesti district, there were damaged 981 hectares of sown fields in Izvoare and Horesti villages. On Monday morning, 4 localities in Floresti and Nisporeni districts still lacked power supply. To remedy the situation, the Emergency Situations Department transported on June 24 more than 1,000 pieces of slate.
