An inhabitant of Chisinau was found guilty of voter corruption and was fined 20,000 lei. The things used to commit the offense will be confiscated, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, on May 20, 2015 the culprit bought the domain alegerimoldova.com for a period of a year, indicating incorrect contact data. He created a web platform through which he persuaded voters registered on the site to vote a particular candidate in the local elections held in 2015. He assured the visitors of the website of complete anonymity and of the safety of the illicit actions they were to commit.

More exactly, two days before the day of the local elections, the manager of the platform was to send to the voters an email letter with the data of the candidate for whom they were to vote. Later, the voter was to take a picture of the ballot with their vote and to transmit this to the culprit, who promised by 50 lei for each loaded ballot.

The culprit also persuaded representatives of parties and candidates in the local elections to purchase the votes of electors beforehand so as to get a commission of 20%. He indicated that 1% in the local elections in Chisinau cost about US$20,000, if the voter turnout was of 60%, while 1% in the local elections in Balti –about US$2,500.

The 29-year-old culprit does not work. When being questioned by prosecutors, he didn’t accept blame. The sentence can be challenged in a higher court.
