Equipment estimated at roughly €10,000 was reported stolen following an inspection at an automatic hydrological station in Nimereuca village, Soroca district.

The State Weather Service said in a press release that the missing equipment, used for hydrological measurements of the water level and temperature in the Nistru River, had been installed with the financial support of the World Bank.

SWS director Mihail Roibu said he was dismayed and puzzled by the motives of the perpetrators, considering that the equipment could only be used under certain conditions: to become operational, it must be connected to the GPRS system of the SWS central server.

The SWS reported the theft to the the Soroca Police Inspectorate.
