The Party “Action and Solidarity” will not support the candidate of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” in the campaign prior to this autumn’s presidential elections. Even if an agreement to this effect between Maia Sandu and Andrei Năstase was reached last summer, the PAS president explained that the agreement will no longer be respected, IPN reports.
Under that agreement, Andrei Năstase would undertake the Ministry of the Interior, the PPPDA would give support to Maia Sandu in her premiership, while the PAS would ultimately support Andrei Năstase in the presidential elections of this autumn.
“We discussed this thing and would have supported him if he had had big chances. Now, either we like it or not, the elections in Chisinau showed that these chances are not very big. Therefore, the PAS is pondering over and will take a decision as regards a candidate who has chances of winning because it is important to win the elections against Igor Dodon,” Maia Sandu stated in the talk show “Shadow Cabinet” on Jurnal TV channel.
The leader of the PPPDA Andrei Năstase said the party he leads presented a country political project to four political parties, but this failed and the PPPDA thus fielded its own candidate.
“As a result of the local elections, the PPPDA, continuing promoting its desiderata, spoke about a common candidate. This time, given the exercise of 2016, we proposed an apolitical, nonparty candidate. The PPPDA came up with a project to unite around particular principles. It was a country project centering on the citizens, not on a political party or leader. As the exercise that we staged and that offered us additional chances failed, we submitted this proposal. The PPPDA has a candidate and will endeavor to win the future elections. We do not struggle for reaching the runoffs. We struggle for removing Igor Dodon from power,” stated Andrei Năstase.
