The Republic of Moldova will closely cooperate with the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union that starts on July 1, with the accelerated European integration being the key objective. Among other major objectives are the delivery of results in the justice sector, the fight against corruption, strengthening of democracy and administrative capacities and modernization of the economy, said Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, who had a meeting with his Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares Bueno in Madrid, IPN reports.
“In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, we firmly condemned the Russian military aggression and the violation of international law. I discussed with my counterpart the challenges faced by our country owing to this brutal war, especially in the energy sector, cybersecurity and hybrid threats. Moldova continues the humanitarian effort and hosts Ukrainian refugees, offering humanitarian assistance and contributing to solidarity ways and regional stability,” noted Nicu Popescu.
The sides agreed to step up the bilateral dialogue in the commercial-economic sphere by organizing business missions and also the contacts between the foreign affairs ministries in the area of European affairs, the ministries of defense and of internal affairs in the security and resilience sectors.
“We will promote with the Spanish side initiatives for the benefit of our citizens – coming into force of the agreement in the social sphere, signing in the future of the agreement on the conversion of driver’s licenses and continuation of discussions on the liberalization of roaming,” said the Moldovan official.
While in Madrid, the Deputy Prime Minister signed a memorandum of understanding between the Diplomatic Institute of the Republic of Moldova and the Diplomatic School of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation of Spain.
