The authorities are negotiating with the World Bank a project worth several tens of millions of dollars for developing the animal-breeding sector in Moldova. President Igor Dodon, in a new episode of the program “President Responds”, said the investment project is aimed at restoring the large cattle farms so that the necessary raw material, the milk, is no longer imported, IPN reports.

“We have a problem. We do not have raw material. We do not have milk in the necessary quantities. We will not solve the problem only with the milk collected from people. We must restore the large cattle farms,” stated the official.

Asked by a viewer when the price of a liter of milk collected from people will rise, President Dodon said they are considering the mechanism used in other states, when the government subsidizes a part of the costs for the collected milk. “For example, it costs 5-6 lei per liter and the state gives 1 leu or 2 lei when this is purchased. If we do not subsidize, there is no use. A liter of milk costs less than a liter of water,” said the official.

Answering another question put by an inhabitant of Soroca, who warned that the town faces the risk of experiencing an ecological catastrophe because there is no wastewater treatment station there, Igor Dodon assured that the problem will start to be solved this year. At this stage, there are several partners that are ready to provide grants for the purpose.
