Premier Vlad Filat said the fourfold increase in the number of Moldovans holding Romanian nationality, who participated in Romania's November 22 presidential elections, was due to the fact that there were set up more polling places, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to him, this is a good example to follow when elections take place in Moldova. Therefore, more polling stations must be opened abroad so that all the Moldovan citizens take part in the polls. Filat agreed with the reporters that the normalization of the relations with Romania also contributed to a higher turnout of voters with dual nationality in the November 22 elections. As to the fact that about 90% of the voters in Moldova voted in favor of Traian Basescu, Filat said that was Moldovans' choice, but the future President of Romania will be elected according to all the votes cast, in Romania and outside it. Vlad Filat said that the Alliance for European Integration did not consider whom of the candidates running in the Romanian presidential elections to support, including the two candidates that will take part in the run-off. “As regards the PLDM, we will probably allow the members of the party and our sympathizers who have Romanian nationality to vote for the candidate that they consider the most suitable. As a Premier, I expect the elections in Romania to end and the government to be installed so that we could implement the important decisions and projects that we agreed on during the recent meetings in Bucharest,” Filat said. Answering a questions put by reporters, the Prime Minister said that December 1, Romania's National Day, is a great holiday and all the Romanians will celebrate it.
