The Republic of Moldova is a country with a rich culture that was inherited from the predecessors. The current generation has a great responsibility – to keep it for the future generations. A part of the national heritage was conserved and is kept at the National Libra of the Republic of Moldova. “The predecessors left deep imprints on our culture. The National Library keeps what is printed in the Republic of Moldova and what is printed about the Republic of Moldova in other counties. We have a very rich culture that should be promoted and developed. We have a great culture that should be yet supported by authorities,” National Library director Elena Pintilei stated for IPN.

Elena Pintilei noted the decision makers and the community should realize that culture needs to be kept and passed on. “We should devote greater attention to culture since school. This will produce results in time. The young people raised and educated through culture become patriots of the nation, honest and educated people. More attention should be devoted in schools to such subjects as arts, musical education and other disciplines that refer to culture. More hours of such disciplines should be taught at general schools, at lyceums,” she stated.

On January 15, the National Library staged a series of events devoted to the National Day of Culture and the 171st anniversary of the birth of poet Mihai Eminescu, including a series of exhibitions centering on the work of the great bard. “We emphasized again the National Calendar – an encyclopedic directory with bibliographic content. This year the Calendar includes a number of protagonists of our national culture who attended our event. Among them were poet and essayist Ianoș Țurcanu, master of arts Nicolae Gribincea, academician and historian Andrei Eşanu, who told us about the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the declaring of independence, academician, composer and conductor Gheorghe Mustea, who told us about the importance of culture in the education of the young generation. The National Calendar centers on personalities from the culture and history of the nation,” stated Elena Pintilei.

The events involved children of the Music School “Eugen Doga” who gave a recital of musical instruments. The National Library offered them diplomas of participation.
