Prior to the local elections set for October 20, our priority is to carefully check the financial reports of the electoral competitors, a practice that previously was a simple formality, said the president of the Central Electoral Commission, Dorin Cimil. Inspections have begun, the specialized bodies are called in to see if and who has exceeded the donation ceiling, while donors are verified if they have sufficient resources in order to provide these contributions.

"We are waiting for the State Tax Service to present the results of certain inspections. We will not publish the content of our findings until we make all the necessary analyses", said Dorin Cimil in a Free Europe Radio interview.

Asked about the number of voters, the CEC president answered that the Register of Voters imports data from the State Register of Population. The number of ballots will be determined according to the number of voters. However, the required number of ballots is calculated separately for each constituency, providing five thousand ballots for each polling station.

Dorin Cimil also talked about the phenomenon of voter corruption. According to him, mechanisms are in place in order to combat the illegal actions of political actors. The responsibility to supervise the actions of political actors lies upon the relevant local and central bodies. Likewise, in terms of bribing voters by offering material goods, etc. "The police, the fiscal bodies, financial bodies and even public associations can report any illegalities to the Central Electoral Commission or its subordinate bodies", explained the CEC president.

During local election day, the CEC has the largest number of employees. It employs about 24 thousand people, who are paid a salary from the state budget, comparable to electoral officials during this period. The budget for local elections is about 140 million lei, while the budget for snap parliamentary elections is over 13 million lei.
