“Walking allows communicating with people who have real, not macroeconomic problems,” the leader of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu said Wednesday before entering the Parliament Building. He went to work on foot, marking thus the World Carfree Day, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I have marked this day for several years and do not want it to be transformed into a show. I recommend movement as it is sometimes easier to get from point A to point B in our endless traffic jams. This may be a bad piece of advice for oil magnates,” Marian Lupu told the journalists.
According to a communique from the PDM, one of the main topics Marian Lupu discussed with passersby was the restoration of the relations with the CIS member states, with which Moldova has historical ties, besides economic and cultural ones. Moreover, more than 200,000 Moldovans work in Moscow alone. The Democrat leader told them that “Moldova cannot and will never ignore Russia. For geographic, political and economic reasons, the official Chisinau is obliged to maintain good relations with Moscow. Any Moldovan politician who says the opposite does not understand or does not want to take into account Moldova's national interests. If we want Moldova to be prosperous, we must be pragmatic and constructive. Unfortunately, Moldova's foreign policy does not serve the interests of the people, but of those who govern. We must not forget about the economic component of the foreign policy.”
The people put him questions about the daily life, including the prices of food products and medications, which were expected to decrease. “The Ministry of Economy is taking rather successful steps in this respect,” said Marian Lupu.
