President Igor Dodon said those who want snap parliamentary elections should take into account the eventual results of such elections. More exactly, the results that will be achieved by the Socialists in snap elections, which would not suit those who want such elections. “We are ready, but will do our best to avoid the dissolution of Parliament and the political crisis. For the purpose, the current coalition should work,” said President Dodon, being quoted by IPN.

Igor Dodon noted there is a serious crisis related to the COVID-19 pandemic. An even more serious economic crisis starts and this will be the biggest problem. The economic crisis will be more serious than the pandemic. “Imagine, the pandemic, the economic crisis and even a political crisis – dismemberment of the coalition, dismissal of the Government, which is wanted by the opposition, and snap elections. Do you think the Republic of Moldova in this not at all simple situation, when financing is blocked and there will always be by 3,000-4,000 persons infected with COVID-19 and there could be even be a political crisis, will cope?” Igor Dodon stated in the program “President Responds”.

He noted the current coalition consist of 59 MPs, is stable and has chances of working further. If it falls apart, if a part of the Democrats or all of them yield to particular pressure and decide that it is more suitable for them to have snap elections, such elections will be held.

As to the presidential elections, Igor Dodon said these will be held on October 23 – November 23, according to the current system of electing the President. The date will be set by Parliament. “There are many questions, either we run or not. Let’s first overcome the pandemic, at least partially, and deal with the economic crisis and will then present our position,” he stated.
