The municipal department for housing and amenities (DGLCA), in concert with the water supplier “Apa Canal-Chisinau” (ACC), the heat supplier “SA Termocom” and the public agency “IM Infocom” will soon propose a new action plan to solve the problems of water waste due to leaks and failures in the piping systems, ACC director Constantin Becciev told a City Hall meeting on Monday. According to him, “Infocom” is due to recalculate bills for April so as to exempt consumers from paying the difference in the volume of water registered by the buildings’ water meters and the meters inside each apartment. The first step would be to check the technical condition of every meter in the city by June 30, Becciev said. After performing the inspections with the participation of all the parties concerned, within 30 days, the ACC is to submit to the City Council a draft decision on the adoption of a distinct tariff for replacing and installing water meters. Also, the ACC will submit to the National Metrology and Standardization Institute the model contract on the supply of water and sewer services. After the approval of the new tariff, the DGLCA is to hold a competition to select authorized water meters, Becciev added. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca has stated that the “fuss over the meters” is an artificial problem. “People bought meters that did the job at their time”, Chirtoaca pointed out.
