The rehabilitation and modernization of the water supply system in Moldova requires about 33 billion lei, according to the estimates presented by Constantin Becciev, president of the Apa-Canal Association, at the Investment Forum on Water and Sewer Services, Info-Prim Neo reports. Constantin Becciev said the weariness of the system's installations was the biggest problem and their replacement would help to save loss of resources, including water and energy. Another issue discussed at the forum was the replacement of chlorine as disinfectant for treating tap water. “But this requires first of all modifications to the relevant legislation. We seek a modern solution in this respect which will be safer for the consumers”, said Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca. Sorin Bogdan, the director of the Romania-based company MDS Electric, presented to the forum's participants equipment for the measurement, monitoring and control of water quality. Another participant, Gheorghe Pana, the director of the Romanian branch of the American company AECOM, said the company he represents is ready to participate in the contest for the selection of the contractor that will design and rebuild the infrastructure of water and sewer utilities in Moldova. The Investment Forum on Water and Sewer Services, which started on April 13 in Chisinau, has brought together 25 companies from the United States and Romania, and representatives of the Moldovan water utilities.
