The water suppliers will be obliged to set up water meters at their own expense. The lawmakers on March 30 adopted a bill to this effect in the first reading, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The bill was drafted following the latest events that resulted in contradictory discussions between the authorities that defend end-user’ rights and the water suppliers over the need to oblige the consumers to install water meters at their own expense,” said the author of the legislative initiative, Democratic MP Iurie Bolboceanu. The lawmaker said that by this initiative, the MPs aim to introduce new norms that will contribute to instituting legal mechanisms for establishing equitable relations as regards water metering. Under the new provisions, the water suppliers will cover the costs for purchasing, installing, using, maintaining, repairing, replacing and checking the drinking water meters in apartment buildings, dorm dwellings and private houses. The bill was passed by a majority of votes. It is to be adopted in the second reading.
