SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” reminds the consumers that measures should be taken to prevent cases of freezing of water meters and branch pipes when the temperatures are low, IPN reports.

In a press release, the public utility says the consumers must ensure the protection and physical integrity of the water meters and basements of apartment buildings. The building managers are urged to thermally insulate the internal sewer networks and branch pipes as they are obliged to keep them in an appropriate form.

According to SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau, the company’s specialists in the cold period of 2015-2016 dealt with 137 cases of frozen pipes and 111 cases of frozen meters in the municipality of Chisinau.

The supplier says that following the decrease in the temperature of air, soil and water and depending on the physical properties of the materials from which the pipes are made and on their wear degree, water pipe accidents that will lead to temporary interruptions in the water supply are thus possible.

As it is harder to remedy the situation in the cold period, the company calls on the consumer to be more vigilant and to immediately call the Central Dispatcher’s Service (tel. 022-25-66-66 or 022-85-77-77) in case of leakages on water mains so as to be able to diminish the losses of water, unjustified costs and the inconvenience caused to consumers disconnected from the water supply.
