Water collecting pipes near Chisinau Railway Terminal will be tested in summer

The first pluvial water collecting pipes situated near the Railway Terminal in Chisinau will be tested in summer. The rehabilitation and extension of the sewerage system in the area started at the end of February within a project financed by the EU. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca and the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel Tuesday inspected the building site to see how the works are executed, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The project that is implemented together with the European Union Delegation to Moldova aims to prevent the flooding of this area and we are confident that such cases will no longer happen near the Chisinau Railway Terminal,” said the mayor. The project has five stages. Within the first three, there are built water collecting pipes that increase the collection capacity near the Railway Terminal several times. Two additional collecting pipes and water pumps will be constructed during the fourth and fifth stage. The mayor said that the pipes laid within the first three stages will be tested this summer. Depending on the results, they will decide whether to build the other planned facilities or not. The costs so far amounted to 10 million lei. Dirk Schuebel said that the aim of the visit is to see how the project to the value of about €1 million is implemented. He said that compared with last year’s situation, things stand better now. The project “The pluvial sewerage, promoting and implementing innovative actions to climate change” is financed by the EU within the Non-State Actors and Local Authorities in Development Program and is implemented by the Chisinau City Hall in partnership with the Odessa City Hall during December 2009 – June 2012. It has a budget of €900 000, €737 147 of which was allocated to the Chisinau City Hall.
