The residents of Orhei town for this August received smaller drinking water bills compared with the previous months. This became possible after the public utility “Apa Canal-Orhei” covered the water-related costs following the diminution of the unjustified costs of the company, IPN reports, quoting the Orhei mayor’s office.

According to the company’s acting director general Victor Pertu, the measure was taken following the improvement of management at “Apa Canal-Orhei”. “Analyzing the activity of the company, we managed to identity and remove a series of unjustified costs and losses. For example, at the beginning of summer the losses in the water supply system represented 43% of the supplied volume of drinking water. We managed to reduce this figure to 31%. Furthermore, there were connected new consumers to the water supply and sewerage system and we were thus able to cover 50% of the water charges with the company’s resources. Thus, the inhabitants of Orhei pay a part of the consumed water at half-price, which is 8.1 lei instead of 16.2 lei per cubic meter,” stated Victor Pertu.

The payment of a part of the consumed water by the company from August 1, 2015 was approved by a decision of the Orhei Town Council. The concession is provided to private individuals supplied by “Apa Canal-Orhei”, who didn’t have debts for water when the regulations took effect, after receiving the monthly water use measurement information.

The average monthly drinking water consumption in Orhei is 4 m3 per end-user – private individual.
