The Chisinau City Hall together with SA Apa-Canal Chisinau (ACC) in the immediate period plan to design and built equipment for using sodium hypochlorite at the several re-pumping stations, where there are drinking water storage tanks, in order to disinfect the water in the farthest water distribution units, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In April, the Chisinau water supplier replaced the chlorine used to treat the drinking water at the Chisinau Wastewater Treatment Station with sodium hypochlorite. At the Wastewater Treatment Station on the Nistru, this was done in 2009.
According to the press service of the ACC, the chlorine was substituted with a more efficient disinfectant so as to improve the quality of the drinking water in accordance with the national and EU legislation. The last studies made by EU and CIS experts show that the sodium hypochlorite has a better effect on the pathogen microflora, viruses and germs. In the towns that replaced the chlorite with sodium hypochlorite, the cases of hepatitis and tuberculosis decreased by 30-50%.
The equipment for using sodium hypochlorite is now not considered object that poses increased danger and does not affect the state of health of the personnel of the stations and of the people living nearby.
