The household waste storage platform located at 1/1 Drumul Schinoasei St in Chisinau was rebuilt, the adjoining area was laid out, while the access way was asphalted. The works were carried out by the General Public Amenities Division.
Head of the Division’s Territorial Development and Cleanup Section Vasile Efros has told IPN that the works were executed following requests from locals, who complained that large quantities of garbage were gathered on the platform and that this was used by persons who didn’t contribute financially to maintaining it.
The platform is intended for five apartment buildings situated on Drumul Schinoasei St, but was also used by inhabitants of Codru town. Besides household wate, building waste was also taken there, but this is not allowed. As too much garbage was gathered there, the containers were always overfull and there was waste around too. The cleanup works were performed by the housing sector manager with money collected as waste management tariffs only from the dwellers of the five blocks.
Vasile Efros said now that the platform was modernized, the access of residents of Codru town was blocked. The road was asphalted in order to facilitate the access of garbage trucks. The nine old containers are to be replaced with new, larger ones.
A number of household waste storage platforms in Chisinau are being modernized within a project launched on the initiative of the General Public Amenities Division and implemented with the support of the National Ecological Fund. A number of 500 such platforms are to be modernized by this yearend. Another ten underground platforms are to be constructed in areas where large quantities of waste are gathered.
