In the context of the winter holidays, the Ministry of Health warns the people not to buy food products from unauthorized places, to respect the hygiene and food keeping rules and not to eat very fat food. The warning was issued in connection with the fact that the number of requests for emergency medical assistance, especially owing to abuse of food, increases in the period, IPN reports.

According to doctors, the abuse of food and the incorrect keeping and preparation of food contribute to higher risks of suffering diarrheic diseases and food poisoning. To avoid situations of risk, the specialists recommend that the food for the holiday meal should be prepared at most 2-3 hours before being eaten, if there are no appropriate keeping conditions. If the food is to be eaten after 2-3 hours of the preparation, this should be kept at a temperature of 4-8 degrees Celsius.

The consumers must also make sure that the unprepared food and prepared food do not come into contact. It is recommended using separate knives for raw food and for prepared food and repeatedly washing the hands, not only after using the toilet, but also before the meal.

In case symptoms of disease appear, such as fever, stomachache and diarrhea, a doctor should be seen immediately.
