Warning messages like “Look leftward and rightward!” and “Hurry slowly!” will appear at crosswalks in Chisinau and elsewhere within a campaign launched by the National Patrolling Inspectorate of the General Police Inspectorate and the public association “Automobil Club”, IPN reports.
Pavel Apostol, senior specialist of the Common Road Traffic Monitoring and Control Center, said the accidents at crosswalks most of the times occur through the fault of drivers who do not give way and because the pedestrians are not attentive when they cross the road.
The warning messages for pedestrians will be placed mainly near education institutions and recreational centers.
According to the chief of the General Police Inspectorate Alexandru Pinzari, the campaign will last until August 20 and will cover a number of districts.
The nationwide campaign “Be attentive at the crosswalk!” is aimed at reducing the number of road accidents involving pedestrians and at raising the population’s awareness of road safety.
A number of 45 persons died in crosswalks in Moldova the first half of this year.
