The State Hydrometeorology Service has issued an advisory for hydrological drought covering the whole territory of Moldova. Thus, a yellow code and orange code warning for drought in the rivers and lakes of the country will be in force until April 15. Contacted by IPN, Valeriu Cazac, head of the Service’s Hydrology Division, said that this phenomenon is worrisome and atypical for this period of the year.

According to specialists, the hydrological drought in the rivers and lakes of Moldova is due to the absence of precipitation. Valeriu Cazac said such drought is typical for the autumn months, while in spring there should be floods and the rivers should be full of water. “Given the melting of snow in the Carpathians, large amounts of water should come from there. This phenomenon is known as the ‘big spring waters’, but we witness a hydrological drought instead,” he stated.

Forecasters said the temperatures during the next few days will rise to 28 degrees Celsius. Light rain is expected on April 10 and 11. The southeastern wind will blow at a speed of 4 to 10 meters per second.
