As of today, war symbols, including the so-called “ribbon of Saint George”, are banned in the Republic of Moldova.

Failure to comply could lead to fines of up to 9,000 lei or from 30 to 60 hours of community service in the case of individuals, while people in positions of authority would risk fines of up to 18,000 lei and legal entities of up to 30,000 lei.

The contravention liability is established for the manufacturing, sale, distribution, possession for distribution and public use of generally known attributes and symbols used in the context of acts of military aggression, war crimes or crimes against humanity, as well as propaganda or glorification of such actions.

Through amendments to the Contravention Code, Moldova has banned symbols and attributes that promote actions of military aggression, war crimes and crimes against humanity. These include the letters "Z" and "V".
