An organization of Nistru war veterans said its members will vote for “Moldova’s European course” at the October 20 constitutional referendum. “We are all different, but we must have a single goal, one that we fought for in 1991-1992. Our goal is to be a free, independent country and we will choose our own path, that is, to be part of the European family”, said Andrei Eremia, vice president of the Force of War Veterans NGO, during a press conference on Thursday.

Eremia called war veterans to demonstrate unity, highlighting their role in the early years of independent Moldova. He also warned people against “manipulation” from “overnight turncoats” that he believes are trying to sabotage the referendum.

Iuri Tabac, member of the Cantemir branch, said that the veterans in his district are for European stability and that they see the country’s future only in Europe. “On October 20, vote for the European path”, urged Tabac.

Oleg Romanciuc, member of the Nisporeni branch, called on all veterans “to be cautious in what they want to do and to differentiate between what is bad and what is good. In 30 years, nothing was done for us the veterans, but in the last three years, help for veterans has started”.

Ion Zubco, head of the Ștefan Vodă branch, called on law enforcement agencies, including the police and special services “to take action against those veterans who foment destabilization and promote the goals of a foreign state in Moldova”,
