The public association “Somato” plans to launch a new service for vulnerable children in Balti. Teams consisting of social workers and psychologists will walk along the streets to identify children exposed to the risk of committing offenses. These children will be convinced to go to community centers in Balti, where they will be involved in juvenile delinquency prevention programs, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the association, besides social assistance and psychological advice, the children in conflict with the law will be offered assistance in court if need be. There are seven centers for children and youth in Balti town. There is no official statistics about the number of children at risk. The project “Strengthening local reference system and integrated social development services” within which the new service will be provided has been launched this summer. It is financed by UNICEF.
