An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale happened in Romania’s Vrancea region this morning, January 24, IPN reports, quoting the portal cutremur.net. The quake was felt all over Moldova, with a greater intensity in the southern region.

The head of the Experimental Seismology Center of the Chisinau Geology and Seismology Institute Ion Ilies has told IPN that the quake occurred at 9:55am, at a depth of 84 km.

In Chisinau, the earthquake measured 3 on the Richter scale, while in southern Moldova – even 4 in parts. It happened within the earth’s crust. Such quakes do not cause damage or destruction, according to Ion Ilies.

So far this year Moldova was rocked by 24 earthquakes, five of which measured over 4 on the Richter scale.
