Vox Populi: About 40% of respondents trust no politician

Nearly 40% of the respondents of the poll Vox Populi, carried out by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers, said they trust no Moldovan politician. However, those who trust politicians have the greatest confidence in Iurie Leanca, IPN reports.

The Association’s head Victor Mocanu told a news conference that acting Prime Minister Iurie Leanca enjoys the greatest confidence – of about 15% of the respondents. He is followed by the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat with 11.8%, the chairman of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu with 10.6%, the head of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon with 10.2%, and the leader of the Party of Communists Vladimir Voronin with 9.4%.

Among the figures trusted by the respondents are also Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, the head of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu, the leader of the Party “Patria” Renato Usatyi, Democratic MP Igor Corman, the head of the Socialist parliamentary group Zinaida Greceanyi, and the leader of the Movement “Antimafie” Sergiu Mocanu.

Victor Mocanu noted that when asked who they would vote for if direct presidential elections were  held next Sunday, 14.3% of those polled said they would vote for  Iurie Leanca, 13.4% for Igor Dodon, 12.2% for Marian Lupu, 11.3% for Vlad Filat, while over 10% for Vladimir Voronin. Slightly over 2% of the respondents would vote for incumbent President Nicolae Timofti.

The sociological poll “Year 2014 in the opinion of Moldova’s population” was conducted by the Association of Sociologists and Demographers and the Institute of Legal and Political Research of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. It was carried out between January 8 and 20, 2015 and covered a sample of 1,171 respondents older than 18 from 79 settlements of Moldova, except for the Transnistrian region. The margin of sampling error is 3.0%.
