The Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections initiated a drive to educate the voters and monitor the local elections, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We aim to carry out mobilization and voter education campaigns, to monitor the elections and to initiate post-electoral dialogues between the authorities and NGOs on the electoral reforms,” said Nicolae Panfil, secretary of the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections. The project has three component parts – carrying out of voter education activities in the election campaign, establishment of a sustainable dialogue in the post-electoral period between civil society, the electoral bodies and the local and central public administration, and strengthening of the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections. Nicolae Panfil said they plan to inform and motivate about 55,000 voters to take part in the elections and to engage 500 persons elected as mayor or councilor in public dialogues aimed at improving the electoral process. “This is an important drive for the Delegation of the European Union,” said Dirk Lorenz, Political Officer of the EU Delegation to Moldova. He informed that the project will be continued after the elections. Daniela Terzi-Barbarosie, executive director of the Partnership for Development Center, said the NGO that she represents became involved in this project because the Coalition is open to addressing gender problems. The project “Monitoring the elections and educating the voters in Moldova – strengthening the abilities and developing international networks” is implemented by the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections, which includes the National Center for NGO Assistance and Information of Moldova “Contact”, Promo-Lex Association, and the Partnership for Development Center, in partnership with the German European Exchange Association. The project is financed by the EU Delegation to Moldova within the Nonstate Actors and Local Authorities in Development Program and Friedrich Ebert Foundation Moldova.
