The voters are now more active than in the parliamentary elections of 2014. The turnout at 1pm was about 27%, which is approximately 760,000 voters, as opposed to 21% at the same hour in 2014, IPN reports.
Central Election Commission president Alina Russu in a press briefing said the voting process at all the 50 single-member constituencies is in full swing, while at constituency No. 51 the U.S. and Canada, the voting starts in an hour. About 27,000 Moldovans voted abroad by 1pm. Lines appeared at some of the polling places, such as those in Parma, Bologna, Modena, and Frankfurt. The citizens are urged to use the application diaspora.voteaza.md to see how crowded the polling places are and to go to another polling place in the same city if that is less crowded.
In another development, Alina Russu reminded that the people who cannot go to the polling place for health reasons, can submit an applications and ask to be allowed to vote by the mobile ballot box at the place of stay. Today such applications can be filed by 3pm and a medical certificate should also be presented.
As regards the consultative referendum, the official said the voter turnout at the plebiscite will be determined towards evening. For this to be validated, the turnout should be of minimum 1/3 of the voters.
As to complaints about the organized transportation of voters from the Transnistrian region to polling places, the CEC president said the data show 8,359 electors voted in single-member constituency No. 47, Camenca, Râbnița, Dubăsari and Grigoriopol and 7,750 voters cast their ballots in single-member constituency No. 48, Slobozia, Tiraspol municipality and Bender. For comparison, 16,000 people voted in single-member constituency No.1 Briceni, while in single-member constituency No. 31 Chisinau over 13,000 people voted by 1pm.
